WS 2: Sediment gravity flow deposits: major advances over the last 10 years and remaining problems

G. Parker (Univ. Illinois), H. Naruse (Kyoto Univ.), R. Hiscott (Memorial Univ. Newfoundland) and F. Masuda (Kyoto Univ.)

Workshop organisers and participants will evaluate the major advances in understanding of gravity flows over the last 10 years, and discuss remaining problems and likely approaches to find answers. Topics will include flow properties and deposits of hyperpycnal and non-hyperpycnal sand-load gravity currents, discussion of the problems of distinguishing the deposits of sandy debris flows and high-concentration turbidity currents, and response of gravity flows to geomorphology. Video presentations of experimental runs and cutting-edge presentations from workshop participants will round out the program. Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts for oral-presentation slots, or posters to accompany the workshop.
